Importing from Italy into the UK: the basics
- The product’s commodity code decides duty and controls.
- Under the EU–UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement many goods of Italian origin enter at 0% duty, if the supplier declares the origin.
- The UK importer needs a GB EORI number; import VAT (normally 20%) can be accounted for through postponed VAT accounting.
- Prepacked food sold in Great Britain must show the name and address of a UK food business operator on the label.
