Data and sources

Data and sources: where Atlantos’s results come from

Every Atlantos result is based on public, official sources, and the source always stays visible. Here is which ones we use, what for, and how we measure quality.

The sources

  • HMRC Overseas Trade Statistics (uktradeinfo.com): UK imports by commodity code, country of origin and month, and the monthly list of companies importing each code. Used for the market analysis and to find importers.
  • UK Trade Tariff (trade-tariff.service.gov.uk): the UK’s commodity codes and duties. Used to suggest the product’s code and show the duty.
  • Companies House: the UK company register (name, status, incorporation date, activity, filed accounts). Used for each buyer’s profile and to tell a wholesaler from a distributor or a shop.
  • UN Comtrade: every country’s yearly imports by product. Used for the map of world markets.
  • GLEIF: the LEI code and parent group of companies that have one.
  • VIES (European Commission): the VAT number check for companies that sign up.
  • Companies’ own websites: read to understand what they do. We only use real pages, never addresses written by AI.
  • Assocamerestero guide 2026: the profiles of the Italian Chambers of Commerce abroad.

How often they are updated

HMRC’s importer lists come out every month: Atlantos refreshes those of every code in use at least every 30 days and repeats the search for active products every week. UN Comtrade data is yearly.

How we use AI

AI suggests the commodity code, reads companies’ websites and writes the reason for each result. The numbers (imports, register data, duties) always come from the official sources, and you confirm the commodity code.

How we measure quality

For each test product we count how many of the first 10 buyers suggested appear in HMRC’s lists of importers of that code. On the 11 products measured in October 2026, 9 of the first 10 buyers suggested really import the product (source: HMRC customs data).

What we are not

Atlantos processes public data and official sources; it is not a UK Government service and is not affiliated with it.
